This is one of the most significant museums in the world. It was publicly opened in 1819. Museo del Prado was originally intended as a museum of paintings and sculptures. In 1868, the museum was nationalized and got its current concept.
Currently, there are over 5,000 thousand paintings, 2,000 photographs, 700 sculptures, 1,000 coins, medals and around 2,000 of other decorative objects. The Spanish Royal Collection is fundamental and many significant artists have their paintings here like Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, Francisco Goya or Vélazquez.
Around 2 millions of visitors come to see the museum annually. It is open all year long except for Mondays, from 9 to 20 hours. The entrance fee is around 8 EUR for adults and a half of it for children.
