Its height is dependent on the momentary explosive activity. The name of Mt Etna is derived from Greek and means "I burn". The volcano is formed by four craters and its perimeter has been estimated to 150 km. The largest and best-known eruption of the volcano Etna came in 1669 and lasted 122 days. During the eruption in 1986, Mt Etna erupted lava up to 1.6 km above the crater. The last eruption was recorded in 2007..
