The dwelling areas of the monks with roofs covered by grass and the farm buildings can be found directly on the rock around the monastery. The dominant features of the Monastery of Tatev are the tower of the chapel above the gate and the church tower rising in the middle of the monastery. The bell tower with a stalactite arch and a chapel, where St. Gregory the Illuminator is buried, stand nearby. Next to the chapel is a stone pillar with a cylinder that was used to measure earthquakes. The Devil's Bridge can also be seen in the neighbourhood of the monastery. It is a natural bridge over a river canyon, where several springs of mineral water and natural lakes can be found..
