About the Mirnyj Diamond Mine
From a tourist´s point of view, the Mirny Mine is an interesting touristic destination, which is also rather frequently visited. The mine, more than 600 metres deep and more than 1200 m wide, is on the one hand a typical example of a totally devastated landscape due to the mining. On the other hand it is an extensive complex that will enchant you by its vastness. Seeing the biggest lorries in the world is certainly captivating, too. Don´t forget to bring warm clothes for your visit because the temperature is not only low but it also fluctuates depending on the altitude above the sea level. The pit causes enormous and nonstandard air circulation, which has already caused several helicopter crashes. That is why a no-flight zone was proclaimed above the mine.
