Matra Mountain Range is the highest mountain range in Hungary . The area occupied by the mountain range is approximately 40 km long and 13 km wide. Matra Mountain Range is a protected area. When in Matra Mountain Range, you will notice and you will definitely enjoy lots of mountain streams and interesting rock formations. Matra Mountain Range is popular among mountain skiers in winter. There are numerous hiking trails in the region of Matra Mountain Range. The most frequently visited localities are mountain villages Galyatető , Matrahaza and Parad . Perhaps the most popular trail is the blue trail which leads to the top of Kekes. The path is directed through a rock field below the peak of Sombokoru. On the way, you will see hundred-year-old beech trees, and you will enjoy nice views of the surrounding landscape. You will definitely like the rock formation called the “ Line of Rocks”, a group of rock cliffs leaning over the gorge. The region is a protected area and there are various rare and valuable species of plants..
