Marlborough Sounds

In present days, it is an area frequently visited by tourists. The Marlborough Sounds offer perfect biking and hiking trails, such as the Queen Charlotte Track and the Nydia Track – picturesque mountain trails suitable for bikes with many wonderful views. Along all the trails of the Marlborough Sounds we can find camps and a picnic areas. For example, the Queen Charlotte Track begins at Ship Cove, and after 67 km it ends in Anakiwa. It is a well marked track of medium difficulty. The most important towns of the Marlborough Sounds are Piston and Havelock, which provide the best access to the bays and the accommodation facilities. These cities are the starting points of most cruises, water taxis and there is also a number of boat-houses for exploring the area from the sea. Some places of the Marlborough Sounds, such as White's Bay and Titirangi Bay offer beautiful beaches with crystal clear sea in the middle of the wild. Other places of the Marlborough Sounds are a home to various species of animals. We can see a large amount of sea animals such as dolphins and many different species of birds, for example in the reserve of Motuara Island.
