The Manjanggul Cave is the longest lava tunnel in the world. In 2007, the cave was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is located on the island of Cheju , which is a part of South Korea . Only a part of the tunnel system is open to the public - some 1 km. The tour around the Manjanggul Cave takes approximately 40 minutes. The average temperature in the cave is 15 - 18°C and the humidity reaches 87 to 100 per cent. In 1962, the Manjanggul Cave was declared the national nature monument. Inside the cave you can admire interesting lava formations, dominated by a lava column which is 7-8 m high..
Practical information
The Manjanggul Cave is open daily. In summer, it is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. During the winter season it closes at 5 p.m. The best time for a visit is in March, April, May, August and October.
