Malé Islamic Centre is one of the most interesting monuments in Malé , the capital of the Maldives . It was built on the command of president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Malé Islamic Centre symbolizes the importance of Islamic religion for the people of the Maldives. The Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam Mosque is also a part of the complex, it is able to hold 5000 people, and it also serves as a library, a conference hall and as the seat of the authorities.
