Malé Islamic Centre is one of the most interesting monuments in Malé , the capital of the Maldives . The most visible building of the complex - the golden dome, can be seen from all neighbouring points of the Maldives. The construction of Malé Islamic Centre was completed in 1984. It was built on the command of president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Malé Islamic Centre symbolizes the importance of Islamic religion for the people of the Maldives. The Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam Mosque is also a part of the complex, it is able to hold 5000 people, and it also serves as a library, a conference hall and as the seat of the authorities.
