Flowers and bushes are altered into unbelievable shapes of animals and various objects. Local arboretum has over 500 species of trees and about 200 rhododendron and azalea varieties. Also a rose garden and Mediterranean terraces can be found here. Colorful butterflies are bred in the butterfly garden in the tropical section. The Mainau Island is a place where you’ll find the largest amount of orchid varieties in the whole Europe , its count is said to reach 1200. A castle from the 18th century with a chapel is a local architectural gem. Exhibitions, festivals, concerts and parades are being held on the island, too. The most significant one is the Festival of the Countess in October. By then also a festival of clothing, jewelry and decorative objects is being held there. In summer, it is possible to reach to island by ship. The island is interconnected with the land by a bridge for a nice walk..
