The London Eye, or Millenium Wheel, is one of the tallest Ferris wheels worldwide. It is situated in England, in the capital city London , on the western edge of Jubilee Gardens and on the south bank of the Thames River.

Technical parameters

The London Eye was manufactured between 1998 and 1999. It has been in operation since 31th December 1999. The London Eye is 135 metres tall. The structure was designed by architects David Marks, Jule Barfield, Malcolm Cook, Mark Sparrowhawk, Steven Chilton and Nic Bailey.

International construction

The British manufactured the main rotating component, while the wheel construction was created in Holland. The shaft and the wheel hub comes from the Czech Republic and the bearing was manufactured in Germany. The air-conditioned capsules for visitors were imported from France and the ropes are of Italian origin. The wheel of the London Eye carries 32 capsules. The velocity is 0.26 m/s and this observation wheel offers breathtaking views of the city of London . The owner of the London Eye is the British Airways (33 %) and it was developed on order by the Tussauds Group.

Every year the London Eye is visited by more than 3.5 million tourists. Admission: £15 for adults and £6.98 for children. .
