The cathedral was originally built in 1535. In fact , it was a little, modest church. However, later the little church was remodelled. The second church, which qualified as the cathedral, was built in 1551. Arches of the original cathedral were damaged after the earthquake in 1609.A new cathedral, actually the one you can see now, held its first mass in 1622.
