There had been a castle standing on the place of current building already in the 12th century. This castle was destroyed during the imperial wars. It had not been restored, so it had gradually fallen into disrepair. In the 19th century, King Frederick I of Württemberg gained this land, and he had built here a beautiful Neo-Gothic hunting lodge from bright stone. The current owners of the castle, the Dukes of Urach, are the descendants of King Frederick I.
The Lichtenstein Castle is opened from April to October - daily, in November, February and March only at weekends, and during the holidays, in January and December it is closed. For further information about the opening hours and entrance fees, please see the official website of the Lichtenstein Castle.
