Lezhë town is a town in northwest part of Albania by the Adriatic Coast. In the past it used to be known as Alessio. Lezhë town was founded by Dionysius I of Syracuse and is connected with Skanderbeg, the national hero, who lived here and founded the League of Albanian Princes fighting against Ottoman Empire in 1444. Skanderbeg was later burried in the local cathedral built in honor of St.Nicholas. Skanderberg's memorial can be visited on the town square. The whole town center is very pretty, but the subburb is rather poor, even with slums. The main industry of the town is processing of copper. Popular resort - Shengjin - is located close to the town.
