Lesser Fatra is a gorgeous mountain range and valuable nature locality in the north-western part of Slovakia, betweeen Dolný Kubín, Martin and Žilina. Along with traditional Slovak villages such as Terchová and Zázrivá, there are tourist trails and cycling trails, waterfalls (Šútov), ski resorts (Vrátna, Starý Dvor) and Lučivná, as well as a great tourist attraction Jánošíkove diery (canyons and gorges). In 1967, the area of Lesser Fatra was declared the PLA, in 1988 it became the national park. The highest peak is Velký Kriváň (1709 m).
