Kvilda (1065 m above sea) is a mountain village in the Czech Republic . It is situated in the south of Bohemia, in the Šumava National Park , not far from the border with Austria . The village is first mentioned in 1569. By the end of the 18th century, new industry began developing in this region - glass making. Along with that, other crafts and techniques appeared, such as glass painting, production of resonant wood, etc.) . Due to the First World War and the world crises in 1929 , the development of the village was decelerated. By displacement of German inhabitants after the Second World War, the characteristic lifestyle in the village was abolished and Kvilda lost its traditions and original atmosphere. Further development during the following period was negatively affected by the fact that the region was included in the border zone with many limitations, which made many people move away. At present, Kvilda is rather a recreational centre than a village with permanent residents..
