Koutammakou is a cultural area in African state Togo. It is located in the northeast of the country in Kara region. Koutammakou crosses the border to the neighbouring Benin. The area takes approximately 50000ha and is a home of Batammariba nation still living in a traditional way. Batammariba people build typical tower houses made of clay and called Takienta. These houses are a symbol of Togo and express relationship between people and the countryside. Their villages are arranged in a way giving sufficient space for ceremonites, rituals and inevitable source of water. Koutammakou location is listed in UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List since 2004.
