History

The history of Kostelec nad Černými lesy dates back to the 14th century. The town was first mentioned in 1344. There was originally a Slavic settlement. Kostelec nad Černými lesy became the town in 1489, and the tradition of markets and crafts was founded. The city gradually developed its reputation as for pottery and ceramics.

Monuments

Major attractions include the Royal Palace , the chapel of St. Adalbert, the parish church, the Pottery Museum, the brewery factory, the cemetery church of St. John the Baptist and the Budil´s Villa. Another popular locality the forest park which covers an area of 43 hectares.
