The town was the easternmost outpost of the Hadramawt Kingdom on the incense route between the Mediterranean Sea, the Persian Gulf and India. The Khor Rori was an important port on the coast of Dhofar, and one of the major trading centers whose main commodity was incense. The city gate with inscriptions, the temple of the god Sin, and warehouses which were built for the purposes of incense trade are still preserved. The Khor Rori used to be protected by walls 4.5 m high and 3m wide. The walls were surrounding the city with an area of 7000 m2. The Khor Rori is situated near a freshwater lagoon, where - according to a legend, the Palaces of Queen of Sheba used to be. Archaeological findings revealed containers with incense, an altar, and a relief where you will identify a bull and a sculpture of a girl playing the flute..
