The castle was built in the middle of the 13th century. During the centuries it was remodelled several times. Between the 13th and the 18th century, the little town and the castle were a compact unit protected with ramparts. In the 15th century, a knight hall was built in the western wind of the castle, with cellars on the ground floor and a chapel in the northern part of the premises. The residential rooms used to be in the eastern and southern wings. By the end of the 15th century, defensive ditches, terraces and peripheral towers with loopholes were added. In 1958 the castle was modernised and became a cultural centre of the town.
Castle premises The today´s castle comprises a museum, an educational centre, a theatre and a little hotel. Every year, the castle becomes a venue where various cultural events took place, for example, a castle tournament, a renaissance ball or a music festival.
