About Karpacz

Karpacz is a little town located, in fact, along only one main and curved, 3 km long street. There is nothing like a centre or a square. Anyway, it is a popular tourist destination for Polish and Czech tourists. Most of the restaurants and hostels or board houses are situated in the eastern part of the town, called Karpacz Dolny. The western side of the town is called Karpacz Górny. In fact, the little town comprises of recreational houses. The dividing line between the two parts is the bus station. About 1 km far from the bus station you can find a chair lift to the top of Kopa (1375 m above sea) . The biggest tourist attraction in Karpacz is the stave church named Wang . It is the only Nordic Roman structure in Poland. The stave church Wang was originally built at the turn of the 12th century in the south of Norway. In the 19th century it was sold as it was too small for the locality, and it was moved to Karpacz. At present, there are only 23 stave churches. Originally, over 400 of these churches were built in the Scandinavian area. The Museum of Sport and Tourism and the Toy and Doll Museum are worth visiting, too.

Karpacz is an ideal starting point for tourism. It is located at the edge of the Krkonoše National Park. Most of the tourists usually head towards Sněžka . There are six trails to get to Sněžka, and the most popular of them begin at the Biały Raj Hotel. From there you can reach the top of the mountain in some 3 or 4 hours. On the way up, it is recommended to visit two charming mountain lakes called Wielky Staw and Mały Staw, surrounded with impressive rocks. If you do not feel like the trip like this, you can use the chair-lift to the top of Kopa (the ride takes 17 minutes) and then you can continue to the top of Sněžka , which will be only one-hour-long walk (follow the red trail) . A return ticket is 22 PLN. In winter, the area around Karpacz offers good conditions for downhill and cross-country skiing.
