Monuments
You can hardly find ancient monuments in Izmir as they had been destroyed by earthquake but you can visit an archaeological museum where their remains are on display. One of the main dominating landmarks is Saat Kulesi – Clock Tower which is located right on the quay. It was erected in 1901 in the late ottoman style as a gift donated to the city by sultan Abdulahmed. Another nice example of the ottoman architecture is the ottoman dormitory named Kizlaragasi Han (18th century) . The city is known for mosques built in the 16th and 17th century. At present, Izmir has a population of 2.7 million.Tourist information and destination rating
