Italian Court

During the 14th century, the Italian Court was transformed into one of the most advanced mints in Western Europe . At the same time, it served as the city castle, where the mined silver ore was kept. In the 15th century, the Italian Court became a temporary seat of the Bohemian kings. King Wenceslas IV had built here a Royal Palace with a chapel. The mint was discontinued in 1727, in subsequent years the Italian Court was used as a town hall, a military hospital and school. In 1893 – 1897, the Italian Court underwent a reconstruction led by Ludvik Lábler, who had also reconstructed St. Barbara's Cathedral and other historical buildings in Kutná Hora . The court got its present appearance at that time. The Italian Court offers an exhibition of coins and coining dies in the Royal Treasury, a tour of the Royal Audience Hall and the Royal Chapel, as well as a visit of the Hall of Mayors. In the basement, there is a museum called "Revealing the Secret Face", where we can see torture instruments and executionary logs. The Italian Court is opened all year round, 10.00 - 16.00, during the high season from 9.00 to 18.00 hours..
