Huvalu Forest also called the Huvalu Forest Conservation Area is a tropical rain forest on the island of Niue
. This area is rich in ebony trees, chestnuts, and it is a home to the local unique fauna and flora. It covers approximately 20% of the overall territory of the island. Huvalu Forest is an important centre of local tourism. The economy of the island of Niue
depends on the sustainable development of tourism, that is why so much attention is payed to ecology. Huvalu Forest is not owned by the state, as the other national parks in the economically developed countries, but it is owned by local families. This ownership creates an even stronger bound between the locals and the land. Huvalu Forest is also managed by local inhabitants, who at the same time work as tour guides.
