The climate here is very specific with high-level clouds, frequent fogs, high humidity and high levels of rainfall. Huangshan provides a refuge to a number of rare animals. It is dominated by the 72 mountain peaks of an altitude higher than 1000 m. Three of them reach the altitude over 1800 m. The highest peak is Lian Hua Feng, which reaches an altitude of 1864 m.
