Hong Kong is a modern metropolis and a special administrative region of China. It is one of the world's most important bank and trade centers.

Little bit of history

Hong Kong has been inhabited since the Stone Age. In 1513, the first European visited the city. In 1842, during the First Opium War, China had to render Hong Kong to Great Britain according to the Treaty of Nanjing. In 1860, after the Second Opium War, the United Kingdom gained the Kowloon Peninsula, too. Today, Kowloon is a trade quarter of Hong Kong. In 1984, a new treaty was signed between China and Great Britain and on 1 July 1997, Hong Kong became an administrative region of China.
