The foundation stone was laid in the year of 1709. There were several phases of the construction. A huge and beautiful baroque altar was installed in 1727. In the same year, an organ was also added. The church was struck by a lightning in 1745 and it caused severe damage to the building. A very precious pulpit was partly ruined. The priest died in this accident because he was saying his preaching just in the time of the accident.
Holy Cross Church is a beautiful example of the late baroque architecture. You will find almost every element representing this style. The facade is painted with a yellow color and the roof above is green. The ground plan of Holy Cross Church is in the shape of a Greek cross with two limbs.
Just like the whole church, the interior is executed in the baroque style. Several interesting details can be found inside. The monumental altar from 1727 is sight-catching. The organ above it was constructed in 1905. The organ consists of 4,571 pipes. The pulpit from 1717 is very special because it was carved from the only piece of sandstone.
