Tourist information and destination rating

Category: Region, Local time: 01:45:50

The region of Midlands, with central cities Birmingham and Sheffield, is often nicknamed the Heart of England. It is characterized by gorgeous landscapes as well as large industrial cities. You can hit the Tissington Trail to admire breathtaking rugged rock formations in the area of Peak District, relax on a canal boat, as well as admire beautiful gardens (such as at Chatsworth House). The region boasts various, typically English architecture, with monumental cathedrals such as the one in Lincoln as well as tiny churches, spa towns, luxurious manors and impressive medieval castles (Warwick) but you will see modest village houses, too. Another typical feature of this region is the museums such as Shakespeare's birth house in Stratford, and fascinating industrial museums, of which some are open-air installations or original settings, such as the village of Broadway near Snowhill Manor in Cotswoods.
