The original name of the city Harkány is unknown but according to archaeological findings, the area was inhabited the Huns and the Avars..
Spa
Harkány is best-known for its spa. The local thermal springs were discovered in 1823. They are the only springs that contain dissolved sulphur in the form of gas. In 2003, the spa complex in the city Harkány was modernized and it is one of the most visited spas in Hungary . The spa in Harkány is modern, welcoming and peaceful. The temperature of the different kinds of healing waters ranges between 26 and 35° Celsius. There is a wellness center, facilities for healing procedures, two outdoor pools, five healing indoor pools, a big waterslide and a park with the statue of St Stephen (István) in the complex. The spa Harkány focuses on curing and easing diseases such as rheumatism, locomotive organs disorders, gout, paralyzed muscles, bone diseases, chronic skin diseases and gynecological problems.
