It is one of the last natural habitats of the rare Sumatran Orangutans, the Sumatran Rhinoceroses with two horns and the Sumatran Elephants. The village of Bukit Lawang is one of the starting points, as well as the best known rehabilitation centre for orangutans held in captivity.
