Tourist information and destination rating

Category: Cities, Local time: 04:38:00, Official WWW website:

Great Yarmouth is a pleasant town in the UK whose history is connected with herring fishing. It is situated in England (Norfolk), app. 170 km (106mi) from London. Great Yarmouth is a port town and the terminal Reedham Cable Ferry has sea links with other cities on the coast of the North Sea. Before the First World War, there were 1000 boats engaged in herring fishing but over fishing led to a depletion of stocks and the port started to eart its living from servicing container ships and the North Sea oil rigs. Great Yarmouth is also a popular seaside resort on the Norfolk coast, in part due to the fact that Dickens set a part of his novel David Copperfield here. Anyway, the most frequently visited sites are Joyland and Time and Tide Museum, followed by Elizabethan House Museum and Old Merchant's House. Nowadays , about 50,000 people reside in the town.
