Great Hincovo Mountain Lake (Velké Hincovo pleso) is a very popular tourist destination in the High Tatras
. The mountain lake is situated in the Mengusovská Valley. Its area is 200,800 m2 and its depth is 53.7 m, which means that Great Hincovo Mountain Lake is the deepest and largest mountain lake in the Slovak part of the High Tatras. Great Hincovo Mountain Lake arose in a big glacier basin surrounded by steep rocky massifs. It is 740 m long and 370 m wide. Right above the lake you will be taken aback by the beauty of e.g. Koprovský Pinnacle, Great Mengusovský Pinnacle, Mengusovský Volovec or Hincova Tower (pinnacle) . The lake is covered with ice for many months. Its maximum temperature, even during the summer is mere 7°C.
How to get there
Great Hincovo Mountain Lake is accessible on foot, only during the summer season, from 16th June to 31st October. The hike from Popradské Mountain Lake lasts approximately 1.5 hours. Alternatively, there is the blue marked trail at the south-western bank of the lake, which connects the Mengusovská Valley and the Kôprovská Valley.
