The first mention about mining and building work at this locality dates back to the year 1273. The mine offers tourists unusual experiences from a guided tour around the underground area. The summer and winter constant temperature in the underground tunnel is 7°C. The tour begins in the mine called Gertruda. At this place, you can see a large exposition of mine maps and plans of the galleries from the period between 18th and 20th century, old mining and metallurgic equipment and tools, minerals, original mine lamps, muffle furnaces and laboratory furnaces used for gold melting, and also an original trolley which was used for transport of gold mineral in the 18th century.
There is a great attraction in the Gold Mine Zloty Stok, the opportunity to look into the treasury with more than 16 tonnes of gold that had been collected for centuries. Another breathtaking part is the Path of Death, connected with a legend about miners condemned to death for gold theft. It is worth mentioning the Museum of Notices, Signs and Signboards, comprising sets of rules, notes and notices related to safety and health regulations, including all types of slogans and warnings.
Tourists are offered a short boat ride (approximately 200 metres) , on the boat which is called the Titanic. At the upper part of the tunnel, there is the Black Gallery, where visitors can explore various types of mining equipment and machines that had been used for mining work during the previous centuries. The biggest - and also unique attraction of this type in Poland is an underground waterfall whose water splashes right in front of the visitors. The Gold Mine Zloty Stok offers a lot of other interesting experiences, such as exhibitions with golden coins, minerals and with a display where you can get to know how golden paper is produced. Alternatively, you can explore gold-washing, climb an artificial wall, and many other.
