Gold Coast City

The area was colonised by Europeans in 1823. The city was originally a holiday destination, sought-after by upper-class society - rich citizens of Brisbane . The locality was rapidly developing and in 1925 first hotels were built along with a shopping centre and a recreational complex. In 1940 the town was named Gold Coast and this name was officially approved in 1958. First tower blocks appeared in 1970. Skyscrapers, channels and artificial islands are typical for the city today. The highest skyscraper in the Gold Coast City is called Q1. It is 322 m high..

Where To Go

There are 10 amusement parks in the city. The tallest one, and tallest in Australia as well, is called the Dreamworld . There is a small zoo with Australian animals and a tiger island where rare white tigers are bred. You can also visit some of the many aqua parks in the area, e.g. the White Water World and Wet'n'Wild Water World. Among other interesting places is the film world of Warner Bros, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and David Fleay Wildlife Park. Natural parks Australian Outback Spectacular and Paradise Country are not far from the city.
