Glasgow, once the Second City of the Empire (after London), means "dear green place" but it is more often associated with its industrial past than with nature. One of the biggest cities in the United Kingdom, located in the south part of Scotland , 70 km (44mi) far from the capital city Edinburgh, is attractive due its unique architecture. In 1990 it was voted the European City of Culture and now successfully rivals Edinburgh. Currently , the population of the city approximates around 590,000. It is generally respected as a traditional university city.

Obviously the best-known monuments to visit in Glasgow are the Lighthouse, and Glasgow Cathedral. Not far from the city you can visit Stirling Castle, a place which is really worth the attention . There are several outstanding art galleries, from which the Hunterian Art Gallery is the most important one.
