About the Frýdštejn Castle
The Frýdštejn Castle’s history is a bit blurred. Noone knows when and by whom was the castle built. It is assumed that it might have been Bohuněk Puklic of Frýdštejn somewhere in the 14th century. The history of the Frýdštejn Castle is quite colorful – the castle was built as a guarding castle. That explains its construction on a high sand rock, and subsequently the fascinating view from its tower. The watchmen long ago, and today the tourists can see the whole valley from there. The Frýdštejn Castle had many owners, unfortunately from the 16th century the castle was uninhabited and slowly deteriorating. Up to now only the castle tower and a few walls survived. The castle tower is well preserved and it is a dominating feature of the whole Frýdštejn Castle. This is no surprise as it is about 15m high, its diameter is 9 meters and its walls are 2 meters thick. There are many steps that one has to overcome to get to its top, but the view of the tower is more than worth it.Tourist information and destination rating
