Franciscan Missions of Sierra Gorda are missionary centres from the 18th century proving the last phase of the christianisation of México. They are situated in the Sierra Gorda area in the Mexican state Querétaro. Franciscan Missions of Sierra Gorda consist of municipalities of Arroyo Seco, Jalpan
, Landa de Matamoros, Pinal de Amoles and Peñamiller
. Later they were important during the evangelization of California, Arizona and Texas. Richly decorated facades can be seen on the churches. Santiago de Jalpan and Nuestra Señora de la Luz de Tancoyol missions are located in Jalpan
. Another two missions, Santa María del Agua de Landa and San Francisco del Valle de Tilaco are located in the municipality of Landa. The last five missions San Miguel Conca can be seen in Arroyo Seco. UNESCO subscribed these missions on its list in 2003.
