Elblaski Canal is the longest waterway and navigable canal in Poland
. It is located in the Warmia-Masurian Voivodship and connects Druzno Lake with the Elbląg and Drwęca Rivers and with Jeziorak Lake. Thus you can get on the boat from the river Elbląg to the Vistula River and to the Baltic Sea. Due to the fact that the Elblaski Canal is situated between the cities Elblag and Ostroda, it is often called the Elblaski-Ostrodski Canal. The length of the canal is over 84 km.
The Elblaski Canal was built with use of unique technical solutions and designs. Therefore, it was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List and was recognised as one of the seven wonders of Poland . Elblaski Canal was designed by the Prussian architect George Steenke and its construction began in 1844.
The main purpose of Elblaski Canal in the past was mainly transport of materials, especially timber. At present, it is a great tourist attraction for every fan of historic technologies and engineering. Elblaski Canal is open every year only from 1 May to the beginning of winter.
