Over 200 species of indigenous trees, rare plants and more than 50 species of orchids grow here. According to an Indian legend, El Yunque is the seat of the powerful but kindly spirit Yuquiyú. The highest peak of the forest is called El Toro, and it is located at a height of 1,073 m above the sea level. In addition to the fascinating views and rare representatives of flora and fauna, the impressive waterfalls La Mina and Coca are also to be found on the area of El Yunque. Camping in El Yunque is possible only in certain parts of the forest. To get a permission, you should contact the Catalina Work Centre. El Yunque is opened daily from 7:30 to 18:00.
