El Capitan State Beach is a popular place for family picnics and a destination for water sport lovers – surfers, fishermen and of course anyone who likes bathing. The beach is situated at the estuary of the El Capitán stream. Along the stream there is a hiking trail. In autumn the local high oak and platan trees become a magic place as they are gradually crowded by the Monarch butterflies, who come there to reproduce. The beach itself is also a suitable place for walks - at low tide you can discover the amazing "tidepools" in the rocky areas. They are rock hollows, which make a unique biotope of a wide range of rare marine animal species. In the beach proximity, there is a camp, which is open all year round.
