The Eiffel Tower was built according to the design by Gustav Eiffel, with participation of other specialists - Maurice Koechlin, Emile Nouguier and Stephen Sauvestre. In 1884 preparation work was commenced, the construction work began in 1887, and the tower was open on 31 March 1889. It was originally planned for 20 years but - due to the importance of the meteorological station and later of the radio a TV transmitter it was preserved, despite the fact that many natives hated it more than anything else. It is widely known that, for example, Guy de Maupassant, the famous writer - who regularly visited the restaurant in the Eiffel Tower, said, that the main reason was that "it was the only place in Paris from where you could not see the tower". .

The iron construction weights 7 300 tones. At present, Eiffel Tower, including the TV aerial, is 320 high and has three floors. The first at 57 m, the second at 115 m, and the third at 276 meters.
