The Dunajec River Gorge is very popular with tourists. Visitors can take an unforgettable ride on a canoe. This tradition dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. At that time, this type of activity was connected primarily with rich people from the surrounding areas. The ride begins in a little village of Sromowce Kąty and continues down the river for eighteen kilometers, which you can cover in approximately three hours, and you can then have a rest in the town of Szczawnica . The second part of the ride is shorter - it is only five kilometers as you continue from Szczawnice to Krościenko.
The rocks erected along the gorge reach, on average, three hundred metres. The Dunajec River Gorge is a very narrow gorge and the river had created altogether seven curves there. Most of the territory in the Pieniny is covered with forest. The hills in the area usually cone-shaped. There are numerous architectonic attractions in the valley, for example, Niedzica Castle and the ruin of Czorstyn Castle right above the Dunajec River. Červený Kláštor , a Slovak village, is a very good starting point for trips - on foot or on the bike along the gorge.
