Dubai is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates and also the capital of this emirate. It is situated in the Persian Bay, in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula. It is the second largest emirate and thus an emirate of great importance. 99% of the city's inhabitants lives in the capital city Dubai, so everything that is important, takes place in the city Dubai, also called Dubai City.

About the city Dubai

Dubai was originally a fishermen settlement. It became the wealthiest city in the world due to its rich deposits of oil. Today's Dubai offers very well maintained streets, plenty of green areas, fancy buildings, the most luxurious hotels in the world and beaches with gold-colored sand. The city Dubai is situated at the northern edge of the emirate Dubai, at the border with the adjacent emirate of Sharjah, so it grows mostly towards the south.

Tourist attractions in Dubai

There are several unique buildings in Dubai. In Dubai, you will find the highest skyscraper in the world- the 828-metres high Burj Khalifa (the Khalifa Tower) . It was ceremoniously opened on 4 January 2010. Another symbol of the city is the hotel Burj Al Arab , also called the Arabian Tower- a non-typical modern building in the shape of a sailboat. It is the only seven-star hotel in the world. It is 300 m high and the largest shopping center is nearby. The mall includes the longest indoor ski slope in the world. The indoor complex creates the impression of an 85-metres high mountain. You can choose from several slopes provided by real snow. An underwater hotel was constructed at the coast. You can watch an artificial coral reef from the restaurant there. Another interesting attraction of Dubai is the rotating skyscraper.

Artificial islands

The artificial islands in the shape of palms (Palm Islands) and the famous archipelago called The World were built in the Persian Bay. The islands look like a map of the world when looking from a plane. The largest of them is 5 km long. Those artificial islands are well visible even from space.

Chess City

The Chess City is being built in Dubai. It will consist of 32 buildings and each of them will have 64 stories. The particular buildings will look as chess figures.

Dubailand

You can also visit the newly built Dubailand in the city.
