Diocletian's Palace is situated in croatian city Split. The palace is unique historic monument and very popular touristic place. In 1979 was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Diocletian's Palace was built under the rule of roman emperor Diocletian in the first century. The palace was a romanian military camp as well as luxurious villa. On the wall of the palace directed to the sea are columns, that created covered corridor. That was a place, where the emperor took a rest and watch the sea. Diocletian's Palace takes an area of 30000 square metres and groundplan has a shape of irregular quadrangle. A construction of the palace took 10 years. The walls of the palace are 1 or 2 metres wide and fortification was supported by 16 guard towers. The south part of the palace was protected by the sea, so there weren´t any towers. Diocletian's Palace was built according to the model of roman camp. In the camp were flat floors. To got such a flar floor in palace area were built huge cellars to fur it. Diocletian's Palace is devided to two parts. The first is composed of emperor´s chambers and the second one rooms of household, army and other needed spaces. Nearby the palace let Diocletian built up own mausoleum. Nowadays it is a St.Dominius cathedral with beautiful bell-tower.
