History
The inhabitation of this area happened probably already in the neolitical era but first written records about some kind of a settlement come from the era of the Roman Empire. The settlement of Dijon was situated at the crossroads of trading paths and quickly evolved. In the 11th century, Dijon was already a capital city of Burgundy. It was completely ruined in a fire in 1137 and it had to be restored all over again. The city blossomed the most in the Middle Ages during the reign of the Valoises in the 14th and 15th century. Wars of the 20th century didn't touch the city too much so it preserved most of its historical buildings.Historical Sights
