Diego Garcia is one of the five monitoring stations within the global GPS navigation system, and one of 33 emergency landing sites for the NASA Space Shuttle. The island is rich with fauna and flora. There are beautiful beaches with white sand and palm trees, coral reefs and coconut plantations on the island. The bay is suitable for windsurfing.
