The cavern is accessible by car from Liptovský Mikuláš - 13 km, in the direction to the ski resort Jasná. You can use the public transport system, too (the line to Demänovská Dolina Valley, Cave of Liberty . The entrance point in the cavern is from the Točište Valley.
Demänova Cave of Liberty was discovered in 1921 by means of research immersion. The cavern system had been formed by the underground flow of the Demänovka River. Altogether with the nearby Pustá Cave the total length is some 9 km. The cavern system was open for the public in 1924, when pavements were built and lighting fittings were installed. Since that time the Demänova Cave of Liberty is a very popular tourist destination for domestic and foreign visitors. There are numerous underground lakes, majestic karst waterfalls and miscellaneous stalactites and stalagmites.
The temperature in the cavern is 6-7°C and the relative humidity is 95-98%. This is why the Demänova Cave of Liberty is used for speleoclimatic therapy. The cavern is open every day except Mondays and it is only available with a guide.
Visitors are offered two tours. The longer one lasts approximately one and a half hour and it is 2 150 m long. The length of the shorter tour is 1 150 m and the tour lasts one hour.
