Attractions
Attractive places of the city include the Qatar National Museum, the Arts and Crafts Centre, the Qatar National Library and the bazaars. The city is dominated by Muslim mosques. There is a fortress Al-Kout, built in 1880, in the centre of Dauha. Nowadays the fortress is used as a show room of traditional crafts. A wind tower has been preserved in the city. The towers like this had previously been used as air conditioning systems. In 1982, the Museum of Ethnology was opened in the preserved wind tower.Leisure time
Perhaps the most popular place in Dauha is the seaside promenade Al-Corniche. The promenade is lined with palm trees and it offers a nice view of the city skyline. There are several parks nearby the promenade. Then there is a statue of the mascot of the 15th Asian Games that were held here in 2006. The city is the residence of the world-famous television station Al Jazeera and the Qatar University. The city submitted an application for organizing of the Olympic Games in 2016.
