Copiapo, also known as Azufre, is a stratovolcano in the South American
Andes. It is located in the Atacama region in Chile
. The top of Copiapo is elevated 6052 meters above sea level. The volcano is located near the Nevado Tres Cruces National Park, famous for the Santa Rosa Lagoon and Salar de Maricunga Lake. It is possible to camp at the lagoon, which gives you an opportunity to observe e.g. flamingos. Access is also possible by 4WD vehicles. Another well-known volcano Ojos del Salado
is located approximately 30 km far from Copiapo.
