Čierny hrad (Black Castle) are the ruins of a medieval castle in the western part of Slovakia
, in Nitra
Region. It stands at the village of Zlatno
, near the hill Kamenné Vráta, at an altitude of 573 m.
From the village of Zlatno
, you will get to Čierny hrad on the yellow trail through the valley of the Hradský Creek. In the past, Čierny hrad served as a barrier fort. It did not protect an important trade route, but the local gold mine.
Čierny hrad was built in the 14th century, and it fell into disrepair in the same century. A wall with a Gothic window has remained preserved till these days. In recent years, a civic association have begun to look after Čierny hrad. It provides the rescue works on the remains of the castle.
