The Cienagas del Catatumbo National Park is a nature reserve on the southwestern bank of the large Maracaibo lake in Venezuela
. Its area is about 269,400 ha. The whole location was proclaimed a national park in 1991. The park protects the rich life in the wetland around the lake. Ciénagas del Catatumbo is a popular ornithologists´ location. Egrets, herons, storks and flamingos live there. From the mammal class you can spot manatees, aligators, turtles, capybaras, freshwater dolphins and many other animals.
